Seed Starting 2026

It has been a chilly week in central Oklahoma and the snow still has not melted in the shade. However, it seems like the coming week will be beautiful, like early spring. I was so excited to start my indoor seeds for spring today. I am using the same 2 Jiffy hex pod trays thatContinue reading “Seed Starting 2026”

Asparagus in January

The weather has been fluctuating a lot with high winds for most of the week. If I have learned anything about weather in Oklahoma, it is that the high winds can make it unpredictable. The days have been mostly warm and the nights cold. I made a ham butt with the bone in on Monday.Continue reading “Asparagus in January”

Sourdough Starter

We are having some temperature swings this week in central Oklahoma. The winds of Oklahoma make it possible to experience multiple seasons in the same week. This week we had spring and winter. I think it is called false spring. There was a tornado this week not too far from where we live. I haveContinue reading “Sourdough Starter”

The Seed Order

The weather has been great to start off the new year. It has continued to be very warm this week in central Oklahoma. It is time for planning the spring garden and I have already placed my seed order. I got most of my seeds from Dollar Tree but I did order eight packs online.Continue reading “The Seed Order”

Deodar Cedar

It was a very warm week in central Oklahoma until today. We broke some high temperature records this week but the cold winds returned today. I’m so excited to see the stores already putting the seeds out. I bought a few packs from Walmart and Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree has increased the price of theContinue reading “Deodar Cedar”

Virginia Opossum

It was another very warm and windy week in central Oklahoma. I have been busy this week. I went to the farm on Friday and I visited my family in Texas yesterday. The traffic was not good and I was late to arrive at my sister’s house. I baked chocolate chip cookies for my familyContinue reading “Virginia Opossum”

Phlox

It was a warm and windy week here in central Oklahoma. So warm, in fact, that my tulips started to come up early. Google says they’ll be fine, but I have my doubts. The temperature dropped today into the teens in Fahrenheit. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like it will be cold for long. I haveContinue reading “Phlox”

Mice

The weather is getting cooler again and we had some rain today in central Oklahoma. My balcony garden has been blooming but I think another freeze will come next week. My balcony garden also has a new resident, a very cute little gray mouse. Unfortunately, we have also seen them in the apartment several times.Continue reading “Mice”

Carrots

We have enjoyed very warm and windy weather in central Oklahoma this week. Although we had a short freeze last week, now it is over 80 F° again. The freeze damaged my balcony plants quite a bit but they didn’t die completely. The marigolds are blooming more now than they did earlier this year. TheContinue reading “Carrots”
