Hello again from the very hot state of Oklahoma. We are still in a heat wave this week and our temperature today was 109° F or 42° C. It does look like there’s some rain in the forecast for this week so I am hoping the temperatures will drop soon. We are also in a severe drought, so the rain is very welcome. The garden has been looking pretty rough this last month due to the weather and a grasshopper swarm. I have been doing some research about grasshopper resistant plants this week. Grasshoppers don’t eat tomatoes, squash, pumpkins, peas, and cilantro. Some other plants that seem to be disliked by the grasshoppers include hibiscus, Turk’s cap, rue, American beautyberry, liriope, and bridal wreath spirea. I’m planning on planting some more liriope this fall since it is not preferred by grasshoppers. I saw the first Texas star hibiscus blooms this week and they’re beautiful. I also saw a cool spider called the blonde jumping spider. I looked it up and Google tells me that this little spider is rare. I continued to work on my drawing of Geoff the horse this week. It’s improving but I can’t compare to my teacher. I also started a sketch of a flamingo.🦩I made beef and potato stew for this week. I will be going to the farm to work on Saturday this week. I hope that it will cool down before then.
