This week has continued to be extremely hot and dry in Oklahoma. We have had 15 days over 100° F so far this year while last year only had 1 all summer. The forecast is looking like it will continue to be very hot and dry for the next few weeks. I really don’t like to see the trees turning yellow and losing leaves early. The grass is brown in many areas but there are still lots of weeds growing happily. The grasshoppers also seem quite content without water. We have been researching some organic solutions for grasshopper control. My apartment balcony garden is still struggling in the heat. The pentas and ageratum are still blooming a little bit. At the farm, I spent Saturday pulling weeds. We have ordered some cow peas to see if they will make a suitable ground cover to help suppess weeds. I saw a new butterfly on Saturday, a red admiral. Its host plants are in the nettle family . It’s still spider season here in central Oklahoma. I also saw lots of wasps hanging out in the garden this week. The squirrels were doing the best pancakes 🥞 all week. One of them was so hot it was laying in the water bowl. I haven’t done too much drawing this week but I did another painting from my Emily Lex workboo. I did heat the whole house when cooking some enchiladas this week. I am planning to make a sweet potato curry tomorrow. I will be so happy when fall arrives this year.
