It has been hot this week and windy in central Oklahoma. We had heavy rain last night. A few plants and trees were knocked down. The mosquitoes are back and have been eating me up. I had a few garden surprises this week. First, there was a spotted bee balm which I don’t remember planting. I have had a red one but this one is a purple. Second, I saw that the pineapple lily I planted is blooming. Last year, it didn’t bloom and I thought it was a skunk cabbage. Right now, the garden has a lot of weeds and a lot of grasshoppers. The cicadas have molted and the butterflies are starting to appear.I saw two new ones those week, a common wood-nymph and a southern cloudywing.an planted my new hibiscus and the other plants on Wednesday. Most of the plants survived the transplant but the goji berry and English thyme did not. I will do some garden maintenance on our next trip to the farm. I visited my family in Texas yesterday and I had a fun time. I got new progressive bifocals and I am still getting used to them. It is July now and the weather should be very hot next week.
