It has been another hot and dry week in central Oklahoma. There’s rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday this week. We went to the farm on Wednesday and Saturday this week. We planted two more Russian sage, a pink muhly grass, and the summer chocolate mimosa tree. We covered the mimosa because we still have lots of grasshoppers. The grasses we planted recently are all still alive. Although they are called grasshoppers, it seems to me that they don’t eat much grass. I did see a grasshopper climbing on and eating a tree’s bark this week. I didn’t know that they did that. There was a butterfly and a wasp also feeding in the same area. It was a real insect hot spot. Thanks to the dry and warm weather there are still lots of spiders around the farm. I am concerned about my cat because there’s an issue with her eyes this week. Last week, I noticed some yellow discharge from her eyes. This week, I noticed that her third eyelids were showing. I wasn’t aware that cats had third eyelids but did some research about what causes them to show. It can be caused by conjunctivitis, allergies, or dehydration. Other things can also cause this issue, including some gastrointestinal and nerve disorders. We have an appointment to take her to the vet on Wednesday. I hope it isn’t too serious and that she’ll recover quickly. We have decided on our mobile home and have finally made the down payment for it. I’m really looking forward to moving to the farm so I can spend more time in the garden. The new place is smaller than the apartment so we might need to get rid of some of our stuff before we move. I had a few days off last week and I did do some cooking. I made sourdough bread and sourdough discard waffles. The waffle were delicious but the bread was quite dense. It is only my third loaf but I definitely haven’t perfected my technique yet. I didn’t have much time for drawing this week but I did sketch a few animals in pencil. The sunsets were beautiful this week and the harvest moon was lovely. October is almost upon us and spooky season is around the corner. 🎃
