The heat wave continues in central Oklahoma and today’s high was 101 F° (38° C). The temperatures usually start to drop in September here but not this year. We’re also in an extreme drought and there was a big fire nearby. We’re still waiting to plant the mimosa tree until it cools down. We went to the farm this week to measure the distance from the road to the oil leak. It turned out to be leaking in two spots. I saw some interesting insects on the walk. I saw two goldenrod beetles and a metallic green sweat bee. There was goldenrod blooming nearby. I got decent photos of the beetles but the bee is a bit blurry. I spotted two rabbits but they were too fast for me this time. We also found several Mexican plum trees near the dry creek. These plums are edible but tart and small. They are better for making jam than fresh eating. We saw a dead cow and it smelled horrible. We saw the morning glories blooming just before they closed for the day. Later, we went to the park and I saw many geese and sunflowers there. There was a longhorned bee napping in one of the sunflowers. I have been drawing birds in my sketchbook again and this week I drew a swan. It has been extremely busy at work lately because there are some holidays coming up at the end of the month. I am looking forward to taking a rest at that time. Bye bye butterfly.
