It was a hot week in central Oklahoma and it ended with a little rain on the weekend. I saw my first pansy this week on the balcony. I was surprised as it has been a bit too hot for pansies. We had a busy week but we were able to go to the farm today for a little bit. Everything was wet and the weeds are trying to take over again. Many things were blooming and getting ready to bloom soon. I spotted the first sunflowers this week. I also saw the liatris just starting to bloom. The first coneflower is blooming and the prickly lettuce weeds are blooming everywhere. We also have lots of chervil everywhere. The grasshoppers are coming out now. I saw a new kind of mallow called Cape mallow. The Blue girl rose is being overtaken by mystery tomatoes. I also saw a new one called sensitive briar that is wild. It has pretty pink flowers and the leaves are sensitive to touch. The dwarf morning glory is blooming next to the vitex. The dill, carrots, and basil are flowering. The four o’clocks from last year have come back near the pawpaw. Most of the trees are looking good but the walnut has been eaten. The foxglove is looking rough after transplant but the Jacob’s ladder and lungwort look nice. I did a lot of cooking this week as I had a big package of chicken breasts to use up. I made butter chicken, chicken parmesan, pan fried chicken, and chicken mole enchiladas. All of them turned out great except the pan fried chicken which I oversalted. I finished the skink drawing for my sister and did my usual drawings for class. I will be visiting my family next month so I am preparing some drawings for them. I will also be shopping for gifts for some family members that have summer birthdays in the next few weeks. I have finally recovered from the chigger bites I got checking out the baby bird in the tall grass last week. It was worth the week of itching to see that cute bird.
