Phlox

It was a warm and windy week here in central Oklahoma. So warm, in fact, that my tulips started to come up early. Google says they’ll be fine, but I have my doubts. The temperature dropped today into the teens in Fahrenheit. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like it will be cold for long. I haveContinue reading “Phlox”

Mice

The weather is getting cooler again and we had some rain today in central Oklahoma. My balcony garden has been blooming but I think another freeze will come next week. My balcony garden also has a new resident, a very cute little gray mouse. Unfortunately, we have also seen them in the apartment several times.Continue reading “Mice”

Carrots

We have enjoyed very warm and windy weather in central Oklahoma this week. Although we had a short freeze last week, now it is over 80 F° again. The freeze damaged my balcony plants quite a bit but they didn’t die completely. The marigolds are blooming more now than they did earlier this year. TheContinue reading “Carrots”

Marigolds

This week has very windy, which is not unusual for Oklahoma. We haven’t had our first freeze yet but some of my balcony plants are already having a hard time with the cold nights. The nicotiana and basil seem to be finished but the marigolds have come back to life in the cooler temperatures. TheContinue reading “Marigolds”

Sleepy Orange

We had a nice rain in central Oklahoma on Friday. We also had a little rain on Saturday morning. It was a very busy week at work and I didn’t see many butterflies on my balcony this week. We went out to the farm on Saturday and I did see a few butterflies there. IContinue reading “Sleepy Orange”

Clouded Sulphur

There was a light rain this week in central Oklahoma and the temperature dropped a lot after the rain. It is starting to feel more like fall. The cool weather caused the basil and nicotiana to droop. I think they will be done for the year soon. The marigolds have stopped blooming but the zinniasContinue reading “Clouded Sulphur”

Super Monarchs

Another hot and sunny week in central Oklahoma. It is October but it feels like August. I had some time off work last week but I wasn’t able to go to the farm. My boyfriend had to work a lot and we share a car so it wasn’t possible for me to go to theContinue reading “Super Monarchs”

Party at the Zinnia flower

It has been a very hot start to October for us here in central Oklahoma. It has been dry all week as well. I didn’t go to the farm this week as I had a busy week at work. My balcony garden is still doing ok, although the nicotiana has stopped blooming. There are stillContinue reading “Party at the Zinnia flower”

Hummingbird

This week started out with rain and ended up hot and sunny in central Oklahoma. I saw a hummingbird again twice this week on my balcony checking out the zinnias and scarlet runner bean. I was happy to get a photo of it this time but still had trouble identifying the type of hummingbird itContinue reading “Hummingbird”
