Seed Starting 2026

It has been a chilly week in central Oklahoma and the snow still has not melted in the shade. However, it seems like the coming week will be beautiful, like early spring. I was so excited to start my indoor seeds for spring today. I am using the same 2 Jiffy hex pod trays thatContinue reading “Seed Starting 2026”

Snowpocalypse 26

A big winter storm came through central Oklahoma this week. We got close to a foot of snow here. There seemed to be a bit of a panic before the storm as the grocery stores were cleaned out. The storm has passed but it is still very cold here. Unfortunately, the rats have returned toContinue reading “Snowpocalypse 26”

Asparagus in January

The weather has been fluctuating a lot with high winds for most of the week. If I have learned anything about weather in Oklahoma, it is that the high winds can make it unpredictable. The days have been mostly warm and the nights cold. I made a ham butt with the bone in on Monday.Continue reading “Asparagus in January”

Sourdough Starter

We are having some temperature swings this week in central Oklahoma. The winds of Oklahoma make it possible to experience multiple seasons in the same week. This week we had spring and winter. I think it is called false spring. There was a tornado this week not too far from where we live. I haveContinue reading “Sourdough Starter”

Deodar Cedar

It was a very warm week in central Oklahoma until today. We broke some high temperature records this week but the cold winds returned today. I’m so excited to see the stores already putting the seeds out. I bought a few packs from Walmart and Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree has increased the price of theContinue reading “Deodar Cedar”

A Mandarin Tree

It has been cold and rather foggy this week in central Oklahoma. Windy, too. We even had freezing fog. It has been another busy week for me as well. I had some issues with the computer I bought where the screen was going black randomly. I had to exchange it for a new one. TheContinue reading “A Mandarin Tree”

Carrots

We have enjoyed very warm and windy weather in central Oklahoma this week. Although we had a short freeze last week, now it is over 80 F° again. The freeze damaged my balcony plants quite a bit but they didn’t die completely. The marigolds are blooming more now than they did earlier this year. TheContinue reading “Carrots”

Marigolds

This week has very windy, which is not unusual for Oklahoma. We haven’t had our first freeze yet but some of my balcony plants are already having a hard time with the cold nights. The nicotiana and basil seem to be finished but the marigolds have come back to life in the cooler temperatures. TheContinue reading “Marigolds”

Clouded Sulphur

There was a light rain this week in central Oklahoma and the temperature dropped a lot after the rain. It is starting to feel more like fall. The cool weather caused the basil and nicotiana to droop. I think they will be done for the year soon. The marigolds have stopped blooming but the zinniasContinue reading “Clouded Sulphur”
