This past Saturday, we visited the farm to do some work. I did a little winter sowing of white yarrow and shungiku. I ordered these from a site called freeheirloomseeds.org. I also ordered the wildflower seeds I planted a few weeks ago from a small Etsy shop called Bloom and Haul. I like to supportContinue reading “Surprise sweet potato harvest”

Seed Exchange
This week, I cleaned all of the seeds from the persimmons we got last week. There were over 160, which is more than we need. So I joined a seed exchange group on Facebook to trade some. I got a lot of responses and am excited to see what seeds I will get in theContinue reading “Seed Exchange”
Winter surprises
We went to the farm yesterday and continued to work on the garden. There is a lot to do to prepare for the next year. We decided to go get rocks from the dry creek to start building more raised beds for next year. This was a lot of work but fun to explore theContinue reading “Winter surprises”
Gratitude
This week, I was reminded by the Thanksgiving holiday of all the things I have to be grateful for. I am grateful for my family and boyfriend, a warm bed, good food and water, my cat, freedom, and so many more things. I find that when I think about what I am happy to haveContinue reading “Gratitude”
Gifts for my sister
I am beginning to prepare gifts for the holidays for my family and have started on making gifts for my sister. This week, I entered a small art contest on IG. I didn’t win but my sister really liked the drawing and said she’d like it framed. So I will look for a frame forContinue reading “Gifts for my sister”
Letting go
The topic of letting go has been on my mind recently as the growing season ends. I wanted to share some quotes about letting go that I like: “I opened myself to the gentle indifference of the world, finding it so much like myself.” Albert Camus “The happiness of your life depends on the qualityContinue reading “Letting go”
Growing herbs
This week, I will talk about the herbs I grew this year and how I use them. I am still working through the pumpkins and this week plan to make pumpkin cheesecake and pumpkin bread. I also have harvested some rosemary, purple basil, thyme, and oregano from my garden in zone 7b. I like rosemaryContinue reading “Growing herbs”
Pumpkin recipes
I planted my fall bulbs yesterday and it was quite a workout. I exchanged the Paperwhites for tulips and was happy to get them on clearance. Next year, I will wait later to buy tulips and daffodils. I was unable to get a lycoris, they were sold out. I guess the specialty bulbs sell outContinue reading “Pumpkin recipes”
Fall bulbs 2024
I am planning to plant my fall bulbs next week and I thought I would like to record what I planted. I will talk about what bulbs I have, how I prepared the space for them, and the layout of the bulb planting. I am in zone 7b in central Oklahoma. These bulbs were purchasedContinue reading “Fall bulbs 2024”
My first Oklahoma garden 2024
I began my first garden in central Oklahoma zone 7b this year. I thought it would be useful to keep a record of what I planted and what was successful. We planted 2 fig trees and 2 peach trees and these have done well. We planted grapes, blackberry, and strawberry. These have all done well.Continue reading “My first Oklahoma garden 2024”
