It has been a very windy week in central Oklahoma again. We had a few small tornadoes nearby last weekend and our power went out briefly. It is getting warm here so the planting season has finally arrived. I got a new white frost birch leaf spirea this week. We planted it next to the Texas star hibiscus. I saw a beautiful white lined sphinx moth at the local nursery when I was picking out the spirea. It is commonly called a hummingbird moth because of the large size and fast speed. We went to the farm on Friday and we did a lot of planting. We planted the drift roses on the sunny hill. Another ash tree fell due to the emerald ash borer. I planted many seeds as well, including: marigolds, dill, cypress vine, balloon flower, and morning glory. There’s probably more but I lost track. Many flowers are blooming and I saw lots of returns as well. I saw the Dutch irises in bloom at the farm and at the library and they look amazing. We bought some fertilizer for the garden and will put it out next Friday. There’s still a lot more planting to be done and we hope to go to the farm on Saturday this week to finish. I will be planting all of the seedlings at that time. I have been working a lot this week but always find time to draw. I attended the library plant exchange this week and I scored more daylilies. I think daylilies do very well here and the ones I planted last year are doing great. We may have a rainy week ahead but we will still be likely to go to the farm. It’s a beautiful time of the year. 🌺
