We are having some temperature swings this week in central Oklahoma. The winds of Oklahoma make it possible to experience multiple seasons in the same week. This week we had spring and winter. I think it is called false spring. There was a tornado this week not too far from where we live. I have already received my seed order and I am ready for spring to arrive for real. I also ordered some sourdough starter from Baker Creek after watching a video about preservatives in store bought bread. Last month, I bought a loaf of bread because it was on sale. It still doesn’t have any mold on it. So far, I think the starter is a success. I haven’t had time to bake my first sourdough loaf but I did make waffles with the discard using this recipe: https://littlespoonfarm.com/sourdough-pancakes-waffles-recipe/ . They were delicious and really fluffy. I highly recommend giving them a try. I did go to the farm on Friday to give my cat her flea and tick medicine. The tulips are still looking okay and a few other bulbs are popping up early as well. I also planted some native seeds that need cold stratification. I planted the milkweed seeds my sister gave me as well as the wild columbine, California poppy, and cardinal flower. I will be going out next week as well and I intend to plant more wildflowers. I still have more raking to do and I am still trying to put together a few more trellises out of scrap wood. I will start my seeds which can be started early indoors around the beginning of February. I had my first carrot harvest and the carrots were a bit small. I had put down some sand to plant them in since they don’t tolerate Oklahoma clay well. They had been growing since last spring. The sky was really beautiful this week and I enjoyed taking some pictures of it. I did some drawings this week of animals as well as my drawings for class. I have decided to drop my health insurance since the cost has increased too much this year. Next week, I will make pot roast and I will bake my first sourdough bread.
