It has been another rainy week here in central Oklahoma. I didn’t go to the farm last week but I am planning to go on this Saturday again. The pear tree and the walnut tree are still on the balcony at my apartment. They aren’t getting much sun and look a little droopy. We will plant them on Saturday and I will take some of my seedlings to plant as well. I have been putting them outside on sunny days to get them ready to be transplanted. I plan to plant a few black eyed Susans, blanket flowers, dianthus, dragon’s blood sedum, Texas star hibiscus, and a confederate rose. My boyfriend also ordered more comfrey and clover for ground covers for next year. His mom bought me some irises to plant that are dark colored and look lovely. We have a large patch of bearded irises that are very overgrown left by the previous owners of the property. I don’t think I will be able to spend the time to divide them this year but I will try to do something with them next year. My balcony garden is doing well and most of the flowers are still blooming. Something is eating the ginger and my bell pepper .It was a good week for spotting butterflies and I even had a hackberry emperor land on my bag on the way to the library. I saw a new one, the pipevine swallowtail, which was very beautiful and large. It has a really pretty iridescent blue color on some parts and has long legs that look like a mosquito. I also saw a pretty question mark and a gulf fritillary that was smaller than others I have seen before. I saw a hummingbird again this week one day around noon but I didn’t get a photo. I drew a picture of a cloudless sulphur and next week I may draw the question mark. My mom has requested that I draw her a picture of Michael Jackson from the Bad video, so I will probably make an attempt to do a drawing of him soon. I started reading a book this week called Raising Goats for Dummies. When we move, we want to get some animals, including goats. So, I want to educate myself about caring for different types of animals. I didn’t cook much this week because I was too busy. Next week, I plan to make slow cooker pork shoulder and white beans and spinach soup. It is starting to feel like fall and fall is soup season for me.
