It has been rainy here in central Oklahoma, very rainy. In fact, I heard it was the rainiest April on record for Oklahoma. We have had over a foot of rain this month. I think there’s still more rain in the forecast for the rest of the week and next week as well. I am happy to have free water for my garden but this is a little excessive. Most of the trees have turned green from moss and it is quite pretty. I saw some oak leaves on the ground that have slime mold from all of the wet days. I have never seen this kind of mold before and I thought it looked interesting. We have many Canadian geese in my city and they are really enjoying the wet conditions. My boyfriend is going to the farm tomorrow to check on the cat and the status of the garden. I hope it is not too flooded and May will bring lots of flowers. My eastern tent caterpillar didn’t make it through the heavy rains. I am planning to go to the farm to do a lot of work on the 10th of May. I hope that all this rain clears up and it will be sunny on that day. On my balcony at the apartment, the squirrels and birds have been extra hungry in the rainy weather. The squirrels are continuing to dig up my containers on the balcony and it is a bit frustrating. The plants have also taken some damage from the storms. A few were knocked over and have holes in the leaves. I have not been out much this week due to work and rain. I have been continuing to work on my mother’s day gift and a gift for my sister’s birthday. My sister likes sewing so I got her a gift card for Hobby Lobby. I have a three day holiday coming up on the weekend and I want to catch up on my sleep. I think the sound of rain is relaxing and it always makes me feel tired. Although I know the rain is great for the plants, as an artist I love the sunny day more to draw or paint. The sunny day gives you lovely shadow shapes and the cloudy day washes everything out. I have been thinking of ideas for adding art to my garden. As we have a lot of space, the limitations are time and money. I’d love to make a corn maze, a fairy garden, and some mosaics of stones or other natural materials. I’ve also thought about making those grass covered chairs and tables for outdoor picnics. We already have 2 hammocks. I would also like to make some sculptures out of various materials to put around the garden. I am looking forward to making a lot of new art in my garden in the future.
